The ability to communicate effectively is determined by self-concept and sensitivity to and understanding of others. Much of the pain and confusion that result from misunderstandings can be avoided through a more complete awareness of the process of communication.
The aim of this course is to develop effective skills in written and speech communication. The student examines how to generate topics and organize ideas, master elements of audience psychology and practices techniques of speech presentation in a public forum.
This writing and speaking components of this course will be directly linked to the themes of intrapersonal communication as it is influenced by background and individual needs, and on various aspects of interpersonal communication, including the verbal and non-verbal “channels,” emotions, intercultural communication and the influence of gender roles on communication style.
